Demi Honors Late Father, "I Want To Make It Up To Him"

Demi Lovato is honoring her late father, Patrick Lovato, by teaming up with Cast Recovery and opening up The Lovato Treatment Scholarship.

Demi Lovato is keeping the spirit of her father alive.
The singer, who lost her dad last month, tells E! News that she has teamed up with Cast Recovery to start The Lovato Treatment Scholarship, which will help provide services to those with mental illness and seeking treatment.
"My dad suffered from mental illnesses…He was suffering so bad that he couldn't function in society normally and he couldn't get the help that he needed. So, when he passed away, I thought myself, 'I wish there was something I could have done,'" Lovato told us.
"And now, because he's passed away, I felt like it was too late and then I realized, 'Actually, it's not too late.' He wasn't a bad person, I didn't have the best relationship with him and for so many years I was mad at him, but when he passed away I realized none of it was even his fault. He had mental illnesses."
The X Factor judge continued, "So I partnered with Cast Recovery and together we are forming this foundation called The Lovato Treatment Scholarship and that's where me and Cast Recovery are teaming up to provide the services that one person will need to get through treatment.
"Because treatment is actually very, very expensive. And whether it's rehab or in-patient, out-patient—whatever it is—I wanna be there providing that service because I didn't get the chance to do it with my dad and I wanna make it up to him now that he's looking over me."
Details regarding the circumstances of Patrick Lovato's death haven't been released, but he reportedly was battling cancer for the last couple of years..
"I feel so humbled to have had so much support from my fans, friends, family and complete strangers.. ," Demi tweeted a few days after the news went public. "God bless you all, thank you so much."
In addition to the foundation, Demi will be returning as a celebrity mentor—along with Joe JonasShay Mitchell and Dwight Howard—for the Acuvue 1-Day Contest. The contest, now in its third year, will give teen winners the chance to meet and be mentored for a day by one of these celebrities.
"I'm thrilled to return as a mentor this year," the singer said. "Believing in yourself is incredibly important, and I want to motivate and inspire others to go after their dreams without fear."

FASHION Magazine Photos

Demi Lovato is gracing the cover of Canada's Fashion Magazine for August! Take a look at the gorgeous pics of her and get a sneak peek of her interview with the magazine!

Fresh from causing major palpitations with her platinum-selling single “Heart Attack,” and smashing records with her fourth studio album—Demi Lovato graces the August cover of FASHION magazine. Photographed in sunny Los Angeles at Milk Studios, Lovato spoke to features editor Elio Iannacci on the highs and lows of her career as well as her views on songwriting, relationships and her return as a judge on X-Factorthis fall. Here is a sneek peek of our cover story, which hits newsstands on July 8, 2013:
On dealing with double standards:
“Guys can be scandalous and not get any crap for it. In my song [“Something We’re Not”], I’m saying, ‘girls, have your fun—don’t let anyone let you feel bad about your actions. Ever.’
How moving to L.A. helped her transform:
“L.A. has opened my eyes. I learned that ignorance stood in the way of my insight. I wasn’t really being honest with the way I used to live.  I was pretending to be a role model during the day and turning into a wild child at night.”
On how her childhood bullies still affect her:
“I could remember word for word what my bullies said to me. Last night I had nightmares about it…just degrading things that hurt me and affected self-esteem. It affected the way I look at girls my age. I used to fear them.”
On how X-Factor is keeping her on her toes:
“The show made me a tougher critic and better empathizer.  I understand artists a lot more now. I get scared for them because we if they don’t make the right decisions right now or if they don’t have the right people around them, they could put their careers in danger. What they never show [on X-Factor] is me backstage crying with certain contestants. I had to walk off a couple of times too because it gets too emotional for me. They never showed that.”
On her unique songwriting process:
“I wrote a song called “I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me” when I was reading a book on borderline personality disorder with the same title— it’s by Hal Strauss. It resonated with relationships I’ve been in and a few of the relationships that I see.”

95.5 WPLJ Interview

Demi Lovato stopped by 95.5 WPLJ for an interview June 28th 2013 after performing on Good Morning America! Check it out!

Demi Lovato

You could probably guess that Demi Lovato wasn’t going to throw your stereotypical 21st birthday party this August 20. But could you have guessed that Lovato would travel far outside of America to partake in charity work?

“I’m actually going to go to Africa,” Lovato said of her birthday plans. After performing on “Good Morning America” Friday, the singer sat down with “The Ralphie Show” in an interview that aired Monday evening. “I’m just going to do a bunch of charity stuff. I feel the best way to celebrate anyone’s birthday is just giving back and helping others.”

Lovato is quite cognizant of the “typical” celebration for turning 21 years-old, and she seems quite intent on breaking down the stereotype

“Birthdays are all about celebrating life, and people are very blessed to even make it to 21,” the singer explained. “So the last thing I think anyone should be doing on their birthday is poisoning themselves.”

If you have followed Lovato’s career to this point, the comments aren’t surprising. A Disney starlet who rose to fame touring with the Jonas Brothers and starring on TV, she checked out of entertainment and in to a rehab facility in October 2010 to deal with bipolar disorder and bulimia. The singer returned to the spotlight in the summer of 2011 with “Skyscraper,” an emotional ballad and the lead single from her third studio album Unbroken. That LP yielded the monster hit “Give Your Heart a Break,” and along with her story of hope and perseverance, sent the artist’s career to new heights

“It still feels like a dream,” Lovato said of her success since leaving rehab. “I don’t think there’s ever one time where I heard my song on the radio that I didn’t get excited. And if I didn’t show it, I was secretly excited inside.”

Lovato is also excited for the success of the people she grew up with in the business: Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus to name a few. She and Gomez have known each other since they were seven years-old, and while they both now deal with the burdens of the spotlight in their 20s, the “Heart Attack” singer doesn’t feel it necessary to offer advice based on her own personal struggles

“For me personally, I’ve just learned to kind of not pay attention,” Lovato said. “When people call me names or whatever, or they spread rumors, it’s like at the end of the day, my family knows the truth, my friends know the truth, I know the truth, and that’s all that matters.

Lovato is currently balancing a busy schedule that includes her role as a judge on “The X-Factor” and promoting her latest album Demi. The LP’s next single is “Made in the USA,” and the songstress makes her directorial debut with the music video. Although the piece is finished, no release date has been set yet
